The Lang Toun

[ The Long Town ]

Kirkcaldy has long been nicknamed the Lang Toun in reference to the early town's 0.9-mile (1.4 km) main street. The street later reached a length of nearly 4 miles (6.4 km).

Our 3 Main Priorities

1. The Town Centre

To create a modern town centre of independent shops, cafe culture, market spaces, leisure, living space and an active waterfront for local people and visitors. We want to provide and influence innovative uses of space and buildings that improve the function, feel and flow of the town centre.

2. Focus on the Local Economy

To use the regeneration of Kirkcaldy Town Centre as a way of helping the wider Kirkcaldy Area economy.

3. Develop as an Independent Community Organisation

To ensure that there is a constituted independent local organisation that plays an integral and influential role in Kirkcaldy Town Centre regeneration and engages with local businesses, the community and other partners.

"A nation is not made wealthy by the childish accumulation of shiny metals, but it is enriched by the economic prosperity of its people.”

Adam Smith

Kirkcaldy born 18th-century Scottish economist, philosopher and author. Adam Smith is considered the father of modern economics.
